How can you contribute?
Everyone collecting data and information on the distribution of marine and brackish water species in Europe can make a valuable contribution to EMODnet.EMODnet welcomes different kinds of data and information:
- Raw data: observations of taxa in space and time. This includes (at least) a taxon name, a geographic location and an observation date. The observation can either be a presence value or the actual number of observed individuals.
- Data products: derived data and information such as (time series of) distribution maps, anomaly maps, maps depicting biodiversity indices and their evolution …
- Dataset descriptions: next to making data freely available, EMODnet is also interested in documenting the metadata of your dataset, even if your dataset cannot become publicly available (yet).
In your email, please specify what exactly you would like to share with us and in what format the data or data products are available (e.g. Excel, Access, GIS application…). If it concerns a large dataset or a dataset that is regularly updated, please inform us on how you think this could easily be shared (e.g. through DiGIR or IPT or sending extracts). With this basic information, we can suggest possible ways forward to get the data integrated into EMODnet.
If you would like to contribute dataset descriptions, you can do so through our online dataset submission form or by contacting us directly (bio@emodnet.eu).
